the art of self compassion
YOUR WEEK OF YOGA

the art of self compassion
In the sacred space of yoga, we embark on a profound journey of self-discovery, and at the heart of this expedition lies the exploration of self-compassion.
In the tapestry of our practice, it's essential to recognise that being harsh with oneself isn't a testament to strength but rather a whisper of the ego's voice. The ego, or ahamkara in Sanskrit, is not merely a vessel of pride but a force that thrives on the illusion of separation.
It's when we identify solely with our personalities, our fleeting selves, that we lose sight of the boundless ocean of existence we're all part of. True humility dawns when we acknowledge that each of us, a mere droplet, shares in the vastness of humanity's fears, hopes, and capacity for greatness.
In nurturing self-compassion, we come to terms with the ego's limitations and embrace the radiant presence that resides within. Yet, this isn't just a passive state; it's an artful practice that blossoms through experience. Through the dance of asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), and meditation (stillness), we cultivate a tender awareness of both body and mind.
With each breath, each mindful movement, we learn to listen deeply to the whispers of our soul.
As we traverse the landscapes of our practice, we discern when to stand firm like the mountain and when to flow gracefully like the river. Take, for instance, the metaphor of shoulder tightness in our standing postures. Do we forcefully push the shoulders back, or do we cradle them with gentleness, inviting them to unfurl at their own pace?
This week, let's nourish ourselves with the sweet nectar of self-compassion.
Let's infuse every breath, every pose, with the tender embrace of love. For in this sacred sanctuary of yoga, we realise that the journey inward is but a reflection of the cosmos without.
